Convergence: An atmospheric condition that exists when winds cause a horizontal net inflow of air into a specified region. The upward force of air from a convergence increases the potential for storms.
High-pressure system: An area where winds are flowing outward, in a clockwise direction. Usually associated with fair weather. Also known as an anticyclone.
Low-pressure system: An area where winds are flowing inward, in a counterclockwise direction. Usually associated with storms. Also known as a cyclone.
